Today We Play: Endless Legend

 At some marvelous moment, during the winter, when the cold wind blows trough the leafless trees, and the air become crystal fresh, I got this obsessive desire to play Endless Legend game.

Hints:
1. I play with Broken Lords, they do not need food, like the Silicoids in Master of Orion game and produce a lot of dust(gold).
2. Do nor worry about hero experience, buying or producing units and buildings while there is a hero governing the city gives huge amount of XP. With enough dust I can level any hero to level 10 in 3 turns.

 This is Empty Belly, my favorite infantry hero. It is best if he has Army Boost ability.

There are many quests in EL, some of theme give items, like the cool one handed sword(have to screen it), other give epire benefits, like one qiest that increase luxury resources output. And not to forget the one with the cool armor, whic need two of the last strategic resources.

The game week is at hand, and winter is another awesome season for an Endless Legend game, with those stonning winters there. But playing Broken Lords race, food is no issue at all. It's all just money, money, and my cool hero :)

Endless Legend is a another turn based strategy x4 game developed by Amplitude Studios - the ones developing Endless Space game series, but this one is in the fantasy genre. The game is good, as there is no bat TBS game at all, but it is hardly played, because of those heavy graphics, which I do not like. Like I always said, a TBS game should run fast, with clear and simple glimpse of the terrain. Some will say that this is the future now, and yet I think a 2d graphic like Craft the World or pseudo 3D graphic like Civilization 3 are not affected by time in any way!! Again, the game is very good and worth to be one of the best games ever, it is just my style to not embrace the heavy 3D :) there are countless of armies, heroes, resources, items and nice concepts, some of them explained in the following screenshots.

The combats in EL may be led manually, observed or autoplayed. All armies apply their skills in combat, like initiative to move first, ranged units to fire from distance, magics, healing and many more. The thing is that the orders are issued at the beginning of the round and not for every unit individually.

There are major and minor quests. Some quests may give cool items or resources. Many minor quests are found in ruins on the map.

Managing the City | Endless Legend Game Screenshot

 

Managing cities in EL game is a little different from any other game so far. First, the map is separated in regions, and every region may have one city. Where to build it in this region, remain a hard task. When the city is built, it will generate the amount of resources available from the hexes around the main hex. The population is not placed on the hex, but rather in a position to generate one single resource. How many resources the population generate is affected by buildings and heroes. To expand the city to gather resources from more hexes, we build districts. The number of districts depend on the population size and morale.

How to Build Ships | Endless Legend Game Screenshot

Playing the scattered map, there is one very important question: How to get your armies on the sea, to reach the continents full of strategic resources? To do so, we need to research the Shipyard science, situated down in the second era. When researched, the armies may immediately enter the sea, without the need to build any ships or buildings.

Hero Marketplace | Endless Legend Game Screenshot

The hero marketplace is where we purchase heroes for armies or cities. It is available after researching a science in the second era, or by choosing to have it when designing your own empire. This option is quite useful, because heroes gets more expensive in time. If we have the hero marketplace from the beginning, the first hero may cost only 200 gold(dust). We may have unlimited numbers of heroes in Endless Legend.

From the city list screen we may observe the condition of all the cities and issue production ques. It also show what type of resource, luxury or strategic, the city has in its region, the minor races, and assigned heroes.

This is the empire screen in Endless Legend game. It is most important to activate luxury resource bonuses from there(situated middle up), as well as to select minor races traits(situated on the left). In the middle there is the empire plan, which will give additional  bonuses overall for 30 turns. The empire plan cost influence.

Here is a city, which generates 3700 gold per turn! It have all dust buildings, have population of 20(all set to make dust), have 5 districts and of course a Broken Lord hero to govern it. Besides, it is during the winter season!

Hero Skills | Endless Legend Game Screenshot

Every hero have 3 branches of skills, and this branches are different for every different race. Some are used for leading armies and another for governing cities. This on the screenshot is a Broken Lord hero. Broken Lords race emphasize on dust(money), so the upper skills are so nice +15% dust. Also every hero starts with some natural skills, which are generated at random. They are very important if there is a number of 2 or 3 near that particular skill. For example the Dust Boost 2 skill will give +2 dust on population!
