Golden Axe is one of the games, that the very first computer generation of people, have grown up with. It was very exciting to play it again to write this blog. It starts directly in windows, thought it is better to run it with DOS-Box to control the screen dimension. The game was first released only for consoles and played with coins and then released for 16 bit personal computers by Sega. After that, the game have many improved versions.

The default keys to play with the keyboard are:
6 or Right arrow - move right;
4 or Left arrow - move left;
8 or Up arrow - move up;
2 or Down arrow - move down;
5 - strike;
0 or Insert - jump;
7 - move north-west
9 -  move north-east
1 - move south-west
3 - move south-east
Right shift - cast magic.

This is the blue dwarf, that will from time to time come around in the field. If we manage to reach it and hit it, the dwarf will drop mana potions, needed to cast the special magic. There are also green dwarves that will drop food to replenish lost health bars.

Pressing the hit and jump (5+Insert) keys simultaneously, the player makes the rolling hit, to try to strike the enemies behind him. A lot of practise is needed to master this strike and use it as advantage.

Every player in Golden axe have the ability to cast magic, if there is enough mana potions. By default for player 1, we use the magic by pressing the right Shift key. It can save us in difficult situations.
