Space empires 4 is one complex and well designed piece of treasure. All concepts are visualised with beautiful 2D pictures. It is a turn based space strategy that have hundreds of features, some, beyond comprehension.

Here is our home star system in the beginning of the game. The unexplored map is just awaiting our first ship to find endless treasures. There are to big planets that have a red star symbol on top right of them. That means they are colonizable, but the atmosphere is unsuitable for our race. This can be corrected after a few science discoveries, but it would be better if  we had at least one large planet with green star. We never know though, the next star system may have 3 or 4 green star planets. So let's start building this first ship and begin exploring. Some small scout will do.

Space empires 4 computer game offers variety of galaxy types to play. One good choice is the cluster galaxy. There are a lot of key entry points, that make it easier for force locations. The only setback is that we can not have early access to some of the alien races to trade with them. From the other side, this is an advantage, because the other race may not be willing to trade, but to fight.

We can check all planets from the planet overview menu and give orders from there. There are all types of cool arrangement options. And one useful indication is the planet name. I have been criticized for changing the names of the planets, but it helps me a lot to orientate in my vast empire. The names may look gibberish, but every symbol and letter is indicating some order and role of the planets.

There are 3 main types of resources in Space empires 4, that can be extracted from the planets. Every ship or building construction will need some of these resources. How many we can store, depend on our silo capacity.

• Mineral resource is the most important one.
• Organic resources are very important for organic construction races.
• Radioactive resources are used for all special production.

There is an option in the beginning of a game to make the resources depleteable. This makes the game more challinging, but the AI's drop the challenge when their resources are depleted.

This is a cool star system with 5 suns and many Huge planets for solar collectors. Of course it is not a natural star system but a user created map. That can be done from the mod menu that the developers have kindly offered for the fans. Extra Huge planets are available after installing the Devnull Mod.
