Yes, yes, I know it is 20 years since I first played this game, but I needed a screenshot from it, and it is so easy to install, and Blizzard give it for free, and I started the campaign, go here, go there, and I was hooked again. Met my old friends we hanged out in the 90's, Raynor, with his strange mustache, and Fenix still alive... This game is like a freaking time machine! And here is a fast screenshots walkthrough of the campaigns and the story behind them.
Protoss Campaign.
Mission 1: Escape from Aiur.
After Tessadar sacrificed to destroy the overmind, the Zerg forces are still on the planet roaming mindlessly. Zeratul must make his way trough the swarming Zergs and escape from Aiur.
At the bottom right, there is the escape gateway where Zeratul meets Fenix and Raynor.
It is now revealed that only dark templars can damage the Zerg cerebrates.
We are learning how to use the Protoss Corsair, while searching for the cerebrate.
Here Infested Kerrigan comes in play. But she, as the Protoss already suspect, a plotting her own plans.
Infested Kerrigan helps to establish a base and search for one of the Uraj crystals.
It is believed that the Uraj crystals can power up the Xel'Naga temple. Kerrigan retrieves one of them.
The mission is to break the UED Terran blockade.
This mission is led by Artanis, and we must be extremely careful to not loose him somewhere.
The final battle cruiser is about to fall by the Scout group led by Artanis.
Char is heavy defended by Zerg Sunken Colonies, but with the help of the Carriers nothing stops us to advance around the turret line.
In this mission Protoss fight against their own brothers, as Artanis and Zeratul had argument with the Judicator Aldaris, who suspect Kerrigan is evil and refuse to work with her to obtain the Uraj crystals. This is the first clue, where we realize that the whole Brood War campaign, we are playing and helping the evil side! Well consider the point of view of course :) The mission is hard and swety. Make dragoons, position them well, use dark archons to mind control enemy carriers.
Here is where the two realize their mistake, but it is to late.
Now Artanis and Zeratul must both bring a crystal to the center of the map, where the Xel'Naga temple is. There is good mineral patches there but do not be hurry to bring the heroes there too.
The easy way is to begin from right to up using carriers to cross waters.
After bringing Zeratul and Artanis to Xel'Naga temple a 10 minutes counter starts to defend it. Well, I crushed all the Zerg bases so I had just to wait for the countdown :)
Most of the Terran campaign is fighting against other Terran fractions, intrigues and treachery, typical for humans. At first we had to people for our cause.
And here is Duran, a Terran hero unit that will take part of most missions. He has the Lock ability, which is very helpful against Terran and Protoss.
In this mission there is no economic element and we rely on limited number of units. Use ghosts to lock enemy tanks that are protecting the perimeter.Be sure to clean the perimeter before sending the pilots to get the battlecruisers.
After all 18 battlecruisers are collected there is a big battleruisers to battleruisers fight. With the Yamato gun things are honey.
.........
In this mission there are 2 enemy Terran fractions one from the top attacking with nukes and one from the bottom attacking with battlecruisers. We may eliminate just one of them to win.
The mission begins with a massive nuke attack and we must rebuild our settlement from scratch. There are mineral patches to the top and right on the map. I managed to save a Wright and a Vulture from the initial attack.
After establishing good economy we continue north holding the bridge and be vigilant for the many nukes coming.
There is the command center of the Emperor that must be destroyed.
Aiur is infested with Zergs, but this mission shows the might of the new Valkyrie unite, turning enemy flying units to dust in no time.
This mission has no economic element and Duran and a bunch of marines and medics must find and eliminate Alexi Stukov, which suspect that Duran is a traitor. This is also the mission where the marines refer to some joke about computers that were very popular back in the 90's. Here is the situation. During the mission, the marines finds and operate computer consoles to locate the position of Alexi. One of the computer consoles says: "Hit any key to continue". Then the marine says: "Which the hell is the any key!?" :)
The building is crawling with Zergs, but there are also 6 Goliaths that may be salvaged. After Alexi is eliminated, Duran disappears, leaving general DuGalle to regret his mistake.
This is the last Terran campaign mission an it takes place on the planet Char, the Zerg home world. But the victory will not be easy. There are invincible Zerg turrets blocking all paths and occasionally a bunch of Ultralists are attacking the base.
This is my defense against the Ultralist waves. Structures in the front, and blocked paths to the tanks. Some SCVs should be out to repair the buildings after the attacks.
The only way is to attack from the east with battlecruisers, taking ground in the mineral patches and continue north to destroy the cerebrates and disable the turrets. After that it is easy to win.
After the distraction of the Overmind, Zergs are roaming around in chaos. The plan of Kerrigan is to find a way to control them. As well to revenge the Terran and defile the Protoss.
First, she manipulates the Terran, with the help of Duran, to help her with a Psi Emmiter that controls the Zerg.
Kerrigan manages to trick Zeratul and Fenix to help her collect enough minerals to raise an army against the Terran, pretending that Terrans use the Zerg for their vile goals.
There are plenty of mineral patches in this mission and I like to build 3 hatcheries in a row :)
With the resources of previous mission and nice defending start location the Zerg may advance trough the Terran defense line on the planet. Beware the wave of Zerg though the Terran use them with Psi emitters to control them.
In the end, nothing can stand the might of the Guardians.
Augustgrad is another Terran trophy for Kerrigan. Again, bridges are key positions.
When Kerrigan is done with the Terrans, she turns eye to the Protoss.
Infested Duran must visit all five fleet beacons to disable the Protoss forces. This mission is quite hard. Carrriers will arrive early in the game so keep Duran in good position to Lock them. The mineral patches are to the left where the Protoss send a lot of Shuttles and drops dark templars.
Now Kerrigan must take control over the home world of the Zergs - the planet Char. But she is aware she can not harm the main Overmind and take the Protoss Matriarch as hostage to make Zeratul help her with the dark templars. By the time being Char is occupied by Terrans keeping the Overmind sedated and controlling it.
This mission has no second mineral patches and we must make haste to take the upper and right bases, which are Terrans. They will try to retaliate and launch nukes.
The central Terran base is situated on a separate island, so a good strategy is to cross over to the right and establish positions with a Nydus.
The Zerg forces are also formidable, sending Guardians and small groups of Mutalisks. Here Devourers comes in handy, dealing with the valkyries as well.
The fall of the Overmind, captured for a wall picture.
Now aware that he has been tricked, Zeratul is trying to save his Matriarch from the Kerrigan's grasp. Our mission is to stop him from doing that, by eliminating all the Protoss structures for 30 minutes. I believe if we can make this mission before the 10th minutes counter, we unlock the secret Zeratul mission Dark Origin.
And this is where Zeratul finds about the Hybrids, which I believe play a key role in StarCraft 2. Though this Hybrids are a secret experiment of Duran. Nevertheless it makes you wonder, is this a prelude of Zeratul's dark quest in the next game.
This is the last mission in the Brood War campaign. While being in her base, Kerrigan is approached by the fleets of everyone he had pissed off in this adventure. There are general DeGull to he north attacking with battlecruisers and goliaths. Arcturus to the left attacking with nukes and tanks. And Artanis to the right lurking with dark archons to take control of key units.
There is a second mineral patch a little down which can be protected with a few Guardians, but from there we need to act and eliminate the left, or right bases, where more gas and minerals awaits. This time i went for Arcturus first.
With Arcturus removed from the picture no more nukes and nasty tanks in the equation. Time for the Protoss, then the white Terran and finally Kerrigan is victorious. But I will be there to stop her in StarCraft 2 :)

Make dragoons, position them well, use dark archons to mind control enemy carriers.
Here is where the two realize their mistake, but it is to late.
Mission 7: Countdown.
The final Protoss MissionNow Artanis and Zeratul must both bring a crystal to the center of the map, where the Xel'Naga temple is.
