With 2-3 armies of modern armors and railroads, we can conquer entire continent for just a few moves. The Military academy national wonder, which is needed to construct armies is not easy to build. We first need to make an elite unit, starting as soon as possible, in ancient times. When having 2-3 elite units, there is a chance that a great person will appear when any of them win a combat. The great person in civ 3 can be used to hurry only national wonders production and not great wonders. Second option to become an army. Then this army must make one victory, which will unlock the possibility to construct the military academy after discovering Military Tradition in the third era.
