Fantasy General 2 Review

Fantasy General 2 Review

Being a great fan of the original Fantasy General game, I had quite the expectations about the next sequence, though at some point in the 10's I stopped to expect any sequence for this game at all. And strange enough I liked it! for a game released after 2015 it is really a progress for me. What is most amazing is that they have kept most of the base concept from the original FG game. The only thing I dislike is the heavy graphic. I have always thought that this types of games need a clear 2D graphic with some beautiful sprites, where we can plan our strategy in a most focused way. For example, I did not take the dragon mount from the Dragon Island, because it was too annoying, weaving those mighty wing over my screen. Some times I had to bend my head aside to look for the unit under the dragon :). Other from that, there are some minor things that are bearable or fixable, compared with the original game.

Story. The story of FG2 take place on one continent. Again, some missions will lock others so we can take different paths. We lead a noble barbarian tribe against the corrupted empire to save the world. Also the mission turn limit now only affects the spoils we get from the mission and is not a loose mission timer.

Experience. In the original FG, the unit with the final blow takes all the all experience. In FG2 all units 3 hex away from the target gets the experience. Except if a unit 4-5 hex away makes the final blow - it also get the XP.

Units. There are 4 main types of units, though they have very different race varieties, like human archers or centaur archers. The upgrade tree is more like Heroes style and we use 3 main resources to upgrade our unis in the path we choose. I just miss the concept about not knowing what is next unit upgrade from FG. One motivation was to reach all units max upgrade and see what is it :)

Items. Items are endless, not like in FG1. There are also rare(purple) items that make which of which more wonderous things. Heroes can carry 3 items and most single entity units can carrry 2 items.

Ruins. There are 5 types of ruins. The real ruins, caves, camps and settlements. The ruins and settlements may drop rare items. The caves I farm for boots (Water walking boots are so so  so needed). The camps may drop some mana or health potion. But what is most not good is that there is no some type of shop to sell the unnecessary items at least. I believe this should be considered.

Terrain. Like the loading screens says, the terrain is a major part of the game. There are deep water, where only lizards can go, water, plains, roads, rough, woods and mountains.

Resources. Beside the 3 main resources to upgrade our units, there is an interesting concept with mana nodes on some maps where we get mana to cast spells and summon creatures.

StarCraft: Brood War Screenshots Walkthrough

Today We Play: StarCraft: Brood War

Yes, yes, I know it is 20 years since I first played this game, but I needed a screenshot from it, and it is so easy to install, and Blizzard give it for free, and I started the campaign, go here, go there, and I was hooked again. Met my old friends we hanged out  in the 90's, Raynor, with his strange mustache, and Fenix still alive... This game is like a freaking time machine! And here is a fast screenshots walkthrough of the campaigns and the story behind them.

Protoss Campaign.

Mission 1: Escape from Aiur.

Today We Play: Galactic Civilizations 2

Today We Play: Galactic Civilizations 2
After Gal Civ 1. the logical continuations is Gal Civ 2! What is best in it is that I have control over the planet infrastructure, and there are those cool resources on the planets, as well as many more interesting things. here is a glimpse of my adventure for the study of future generations :)
Civilizations 2: Twilight of the Arnor Du'toth planet
This screenshot is from the Twilight of the Arnor campaign, where we fight against the evil Dread Lords, and this is the location of the Du'toth planet, that need to be captured to retrieve the last shard.
Second Economic Capitol
This is a planet with Second Economic Capitol. Yep that is possible if we capture a planet, where one of the other races have begun to build it. You can check if there is economic capitol construction with a spy, or just being lucky to influence such planet.
Galactic Civilizations 2 Dreadnaught
Here is a Drednaught class ship defending the home planet.
Galactic Civilizations 2 Oceanic World.
Galactic Civilizations 2 Oceanic World. It makes we want to swim :)
Galactic Civilizations 2 Planet List
This is the Galactic Civilizations 2 Planet List for this adventure.
Galactic Civilizations 2 Barren World.
This screenshot is important, it shows 2 of 3 things to have in mind always:

  • Neutrality Learning Centers  are best research labs, no need to get other two.
  • Navigation Center building is taken from the Arcaen empire(yellow)
  • Global Market (not here) is taken from the Iconian Refuges (grey)

Be sure to have this two empires in play.
Galactic Civilizations 2 The Lone Wolf Map
Galactic Civilizations 2 The Lone Wolf Map.
Galactic Civilizations 2 Ship Leveling
Galactic Civilizations 2 Ship Leveling. To be able to level up a ship faster we need low attack and defense and as many hit points to sustain damage. This ship, called Pras4o, has just one laser +1 or +2. +2 from the three defenses and a lot of Engines and Integrity Grids. It is fast, can hit week targets, get a level per hit and go to safety of star bases or planets.
Galactic Civilizations 2 The Lucky Ranger
Sometimes, more often if +% luck, we got the Lucky Ranger ship, more than once. Well I give the ship to the minor races, as I try to maintain low star ship support, and my ships being produced on planets with  at least +50% star ship quality(a lot of loading), my are 50% better :)

Lone Wolf Map for Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor

The last couple of weeks I spent playing Galactic Civilizations 2, and like always I had to make some challenge with a good balanced map. This map should be played with a custom race. I start with a little advantage 3 survey ships in the left party of the galaxy and have to make my way where the rest of the races are having their party :) Hint: get the barren worlds fast or make your race with super ability like Yor to colonize barren worlds from the beginning.

This is the link for the map: Lone Wolf by Ogo Bob
(right click on the link and "save link as" or it will open it like text file)

You must place it in D:\Games\GalCiv2EU\Twilight\Data\CustomMaps
where D:\Games\ is replaced with the path of your game.

If you can not see it, there is a scroller to roll down the maps. I learned it the hard way :)
Here is a memory of this epic game.

Today We Play: Galactic Civilizations

Today We Play: Galactic Civilizations
This game never stops to amaze me. It is the first game of the sequence and it is the cleanest one. Here on the  screenshot is my invincible Overlord ship, the biggest one. it has insane attack and good defense, and its mission is to protect the morale star base. And if you are tired of loading for planet quality, you may try GalCiv cheats:
  • Increase the class of the planets in the selected star system with +10: CTRL+P
  • Increase ship quality: CTRL+A
  • Create a battleship: CTRL+B
  • Clone selected ship CTRL+C
  • Create random ship CTRL+V
  • Add $1000: CTRL+M

Hearthstone - Ogo Bob vs GoknesS - Level 17

Priest vs Mage.
Standard match against an online opponent. Things are awesome when I have the Northshire Cleric in the first hand, but not so much against mage.

Today We Play: Hearthstone

Today We Play: Hearthstone
It is time for another awesome card game after the game week with Magic the Gathering, being Blizzard's Hearthstone. 5 years since I have played it, the game have evolved , but not so much. My usual first choice of hero is the Hunter, but for this game, I find it more comfortable to play with the Priest, being able to heal its minions.

The Northshire Cleric

The Northshire Cleric
The Northshire Cleric is one of the most amazing Priest cards, either in early and late game. It cost just one crystal, it has 3 health and draw card on healing.

Arena Fanatic

Arena Fanatic
The Arena Fanatic card can be played by any class and gives +1/+1 to all minions in your hand.

Faceless Rager

Faceless Rager
The Faceless Rager card can be played by any class and it copy a friendly minion's health.

Holy Nova

Holy Nova
The Holy Nova is an instance card that deal 2 damage to all enemy minions, it is extremely useful in situations like this on the screenshot.
