Elemental: War of Magic is an extraordinary turn based strategy. The game was very criticized for its bugs and lazy AI, but later, most of the issues were patched. Yet the game remained unappreciated. The most awesome thing is the stylized world map and the ability to make a lot of heroes. Combats are made in separate tactical screen like most games alike. City resource concept is also very amusing.

The stylized map looks clean and tidy and we can compute the whole picture, exactly how should TBS games be. 

• Green units are ours.
• Brown units are neutral heroes, that can be bribed.
• Grey units are neutral hostile units, they appear in random places or quests and bring good XP.
• The rest of the colors are rival units.

To the left, we can see or cities and units quick icon and expand them horizontally with the + button. I have hired, bribed and breed more than 50 heroes in this game.

Hint: When creating the main hero, make him a male. Take +1 movement and as many other useful abilities. Some bearable disability will free additional points. When he give an offspring, it should inherit some of these abilities.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is truly one of the best games ever. All its remakes during the 21 century are awesome too, but once per year or two, I spend a week grinding AC Alien Crossfire, that brings unique feeling.

So here is the society screen. Every option have some advantage, but also some disadvantage. Some disadvantages can be removed with new technologies and world wonders.

Here is the city production output in one well developed city.

• First, all terrain is forest or fungi. With a proper society and buildings, forest can give +3 food, +2 minerals and +2 energy. 
• We should drill for rivers in every available square. This is done by pressing "q" key with the terraformer. Rivers give additional +1 energy. 
• With a good Planet value, the fungi can give +4 food, +4 minerals and +5 energy. But planting a lot of fungus is dangerous. 
• The third income comes from the supply crawlers. A close look on the map, reveals a thermal borehole in every square unused by cities. Being outside the city radius, the borehole do not pollute the city. We can harness these resources with supply crawlers. Just go over it with the crawler and press "o" key. The specified resource will go to the home city of the crawler. We can choose only one resource to transport. It is visible at the bottom right of the screen.

Warlords 4 is the next game in the TBS series released in 2002. A lot of game concepts have evolved to make the it more deep, complex and exciting.

Combats in Warlords 4 have become more detailed. They keep the old system where one unit from both squads' fight with another until one of them fall, but we can keep track for every round. Here our hero is facing the Hydra. Hopefully he is quite strong and can slay it fast, because every Hydra hit, take damage to all units, no matter they do not participate in the combat.

In Disciples 2: Rise of the Elves we can finally play with the elf race. This is the elf sorcerer hero, caring with her 3 super cool long range Marauders and two units that can paralyze or petrify the enemy. This party is actually quite invincible. The Medusa attack is Mass Petrify. If the enemy fail to resist, they loose their next turn, until the spell is broken. The Sylph on the other hand, can paralyze a single unit with a very high chance of success. The archers aim the strongest units, while the mage take mass damage.

Disciples 2 is truly one of the greatest games. It combines a lovely 2D graphic, exiting turn based strategy, wonderful  atmosphere and extraordinary combats. There is an interesting campaign and a lot of original and user created single player maps.

This is the empire lands. All beautiful green plains and trees with flourishing life. To make the lands ours, we need a special hero, who plant Rods. The land around the rod slowly begin to change for the owner. Rods can be destroyed from rival heroes.
