Hammer of the Gods - Playing with Dwarves

Hammer of the Gods - Playing with Dwarves
Here are some notes, what I need to know next time I play Hammer of the Gods DOS game with dwarves. Dwarves play with red and they have the strongest heroes.

Dwarf special unit.
Dwarf special unit
The dwarf special unit is the basic dwarf. It is very clumsy unit and even footmen are more valuable than them, as they can not be joined in cities to increase its size.  Dwarves are also the slowest unit with only 10 movement points. Advantage is they can pass mountains for 3 points and hills for 2.

Dwarf City
Dwarf City
Dwarf rely on gold. A full mountain surrounded city on size 125 gives 107 gold!

Dwarf Strongest Army
Dwarf Strongest Army
Because dwarves do not have Elf quests the strongest army do not include elves.  They are:
- 2 simple archers.
- 1 fire wizard, which is may be the strongest wizard.
- 2 dwarf heroes with regeneration items. The dwarf quest do not give any regeneration, but the other two races - elves and trolls do have, and when their heroes are slain near neutral castles, the item is there to be picked up.
- 2 fire giants, which are the strongest unit dwarves receive from quests. They are 3 overall.
- Double movement item (taken from humans).
- Flying ship (taken from elves).
* With this army the dwarves are unstoppable!

Dwarf Quests and Terrain
Dwarf Quests and Terrain
Dwarf quests gives mostly heroes and special units.
- Terrain quest are +1 gold on mountain and +1 food on hills and mountain. A human terrain quest gives +1 food on rivers.
- Two troll heroes
- +4 Weapon
- 2 viking heroes.
- The ending quest is to generate 15 k gold
- The final quest is to have 3/4 of all gold, which is quite long.

Trade Treaty
Trade Treaty
A trade treaty at turn 80 may bring 2300 gold per turn!
 Sword of Speed
Sword of Speed
The sword of speed is actually a human item. Placed in the hands of a hero with a defense and attack item, especially a troll hero, it rocks.

Here is a combat gameplay movie  with the strongest dwarf army.
(the quality of the movie is not good, because the capture program is having issues with DOS-Box)
(Also, one day I'll buy a good computer with decent audio card and microphone to save sound.)

They were amazing days! Recorded Adventure Archive 27.01.2019 - 29.01.2019.

Hammer of the Gods - Playing with Trolls

Hammer of the Gods - Playing with Trolls
Here are some notes, what I need to know next time I play Hammer of the Gods old DOS game with trolls. Trolls play yellow and they are the most durable race. Their final quest is to raze a rival capitol and the last quest is to have 3/4 of all cities.

Troll special unit.
Troll special unit.
The special unit of the trolls have 14 movement points and have natural regeneration, restoring one health point per 2 turns in combat. A good tactic playing with trolls is to rotate them in the front line to be shot by enemy archers, while your archers take a good damage.

Troll Strongest Army
Troll Strongest Army
The strongest army of the trolls include elves as they have elf quests to make. The best stack is:
- 2 elf heroes with storm protection ammulet, healing staff, double movement item.
- 1 necromancer to fire deadly magic from the last line
- 2 more leves, because when having elves the enemies do not stay behind walls.
- 1 troll hero with attack and defense item
- 2 fire giants.
Collecting Items
Collecting Items
It is always safe to travel with only one unit, because neutral castles do not attack 1 unit stack. Heroes have more movement and can collect the item when they see it. These items are dropped by rival heroes when they fall in the neutral castles trap.

Enigmatic Cache | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Enigmatic Cache | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
The Enigmatic Cache is a strange flying tube that travel from planet to planet peacefully. When orbiting a planet it gives a 30% bonus in research. Should that planet be your planet, you get the bonus while it is there. No need to attack it, when attacked the Enigmatic Cache will jump away immediately and go visit rival empires.

Population Control | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Population Control | Stellaris: MegaCorp screnshot
You can stop a population from growing by setting the population control in the species rights menu. But playing with the machines, you can just remove the workers from the replication building. Because machines are constructed and not grown, you may control the construction planet by planet.

Psionic Entity | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Psionic Entity | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
There are usually 3 monster creatures lurking in every galaxy in Stellaris: MegaCorp. One of them is the Psionic Entity. When you have a 30k power of your fleet, you are ready to face it and get its research and the bonuses in the star system it inhabits.

Ground Combats | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Ground Combats | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
Ground combats in Stellaris: MegaCorp are simple - make more ground troops from the Armies tab on any planet, merge them in one big army, place a leader and unload them with the right button on enemy planets. The number of active fighters is defined by the planet size, the rest are in the reserve. But to take the planet for your self you need to claim the system and win the whole war with that rival. This exact screenshot is taken when the population on the conquered planet rebelled. Fortunately there were 2 more planets in this system crateing ground troops and sending them to defend one by one. After the victory my general leader made its full cap of levels.

Planets and Buildings | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Planets and Buildings | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
There are 3 types of buildings in Stellaris: MegaCorp. First is the housing district, which subtract from the planet size number and give only housing. Second is the production districts, which are different in number for every planet and give jobs for energy production, mineral production and food production. They also subtract from the planet size limit. The third is the planet buildings, which are unlocked by the population size and do not count to Administrative Cap or subtract from the planet size number. They give the rest of the bonuses including science and special resources jobs. So as long as you have enough housing, you can have unlimited population.

Planets and Sectors | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Planets and Sectors | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
Colonized planets in Stellaris: MegaCorp goes in predefined sectors that you can not control. Every sector may have one leader who will apply his bonuses in all planets in the sector. If you colonize a desolated planet with no another planet in the two stars away you will need a leader only for this planet. In general a sector include 1-2 stars way from the star you colonize, but you can click the top left button in the down right panel to check the sectors. And always save before colonizing.

Star System | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Star System | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
Every star system in Stellaris: MegaCorp may have one to 3 stars, has a neutron star or a black hole. There are a couple of wormholes in some star systems that lead to another system in the galaxy, as well as a few Star Gates that lead to the Replicators world, when they are activated. A star system may have up to 3 colonizable planets and even 4 if a terraforming event is found. When surveyed some of the uninhabitable planets like gas giants and asteroids may reveal a resource, energy, minerals or science. These resources are utilized with the construction ship. And also every star system may have only one star base in it.

Galaxy Map | Stellaris: MegaCorp

Galaxy Map | Stellaris: MegaCorp screenshot
I usually play a ring galaxy with normal star line connections. In Stellaris: MegaCorp you can reach a star only through a star line, except the science ship when you discover the FTL drive. So being a ring galaxy there are always two major fronts, which sometimes are accessed trough only one star, making this star a key position for starbases. Every star has its own influence and creating a starbase with a construction ship claims this star system even if there is no planets there. To be claimed, the star system need to be fully surveyed. But either you and your rivals can cross a star and take the star behind the key star if it is not taken. Actually I dreamed of it, and the next day one of the rivals done it!
