Dune Wars mod for Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is developed by the independent Dune War Team.
It is a total remake of the Civilization 4 computer game with new features and concepts, like the Tribal Gathering. To begin the terraformation of Arrakis we first need to discover the Way of Liet science. It is next technology after Water Economy, down in the Early Technology Screenshot. Then we can change to Arrakis Paradise civic, which allows the Catchbasin building construction. After that, the city alone will begin to spread greenlands and even forests. Arrakis Paradise way may be two sided. It will bring a lot of water for cities to grow, but remove the spice and the gold from it.

The mod features a struggle to control one planet - Dune, Arrakis, a barren desert wasteland which is valuable for one thing only - the spice melange. The spice has the universe addicted to it; it extends life, it allows for the Navigators of the the Spacing Guild to fold space, travel from one point in space to another without moving, it is the basis for the economy and trade of the known universe. The spice is created by Sand Worms, giant creatures that live their whole life in the sand.

This is the city screen from Civilization 1 computer game. From left top to bottom we have the city population. Under it the food generation, the production, trade and gold and science according to the tax rate. Under it is the units that the city supports. And bottom the food storage. When it is filled up the city will increase in size.

In the center is the land area the city harness Under it is the units that are currently in the city and bottom is the nasty pollution. It can be removed by buildings. Top right is the constructed building and under it is the current construction.

During peaceful times in Civilization 1 we put all efforts on developing the land around the cities. Every settler is constructing railroads to connect all cities. The rest are irrigating around to support a large city with size over 10. To go over size of 8 a city need an Aqueduct. And to go over 12 it needs a Sewer System. Any time possible  every city must make 3 caravans and send them to a distant large city to bring more gold.

This is the aftermath the atomic bombing in Civilization 1 computer game. In 1850s, the yellow player got pissed off my overwhelming tactic and used some bomb on all conquered cities. Nuclear weapons destroy all defense in the city, reduce it size by half and all lands around become polluted. It would take many ears to regain the glory of that city and a lot of settler cleaning to remove the pollution. Beside, the settlers now will be too exposed with these railroads.

After our ship discover the new world in Civilization 4 Colonization computer game, we build our first colony on a suitable location near the arriving area. Colonies in Civ 4 Col work only one square around them. This colony should be great. It have one sea bonus resource and one food bonus resource. There is a thick forest for lumber and production and a lovely hill for ore and tools. The river will also give +1 on any rosource on the tile it flows. In general the main colony is not needed to be industrial, but agricultural, so we can breed a lot of free colonists there.

The first thing to build is the Dock. It will give more food on seas. Next we will need the warehouse and then the church to attract more colonists from Europe. Then, our task is to explore the region with one colonist and make city improvements with the Pioneer. Then with the first 20-30 raw materials we go back to Europe to search for a scout or any colonist to spare for exploration.

If we are lucky, we may find a scout among the first immigrants in Civilization 4 Colonization computer game. This will make the difference in the beginning stages. If no, we must first buy some horses from Europe and equip a free colonist to scout around. He will eventually find a village that will train him in scout and get a lot of experience.

But the natural scout is best. We must visit as many tribal villages with him and speak to their chiefs. They will give a lot of  precious gold coins and even full carts with goldies and shinies. When the treasure cart arrive in one of our cities, the King will directly offer 50% split in profit. This may be acceptable in the beginning, but later we may buy a Galleon ship that have 8 cargo hold, transport the treasure cart to Europe, and sell it with the current tax rate.

Another great aspect in Civilization 4 Colonization is the Founding Fathers concept. If  we play with another European rival, we must compete for them. Every Founding Father need Political points. Political points are acquired from liberty bells. Exploration Fathers will need Exploration points too. They are acquired from exploring the lands. We will have a lot of it. Trade Fathers will need Trade Points, generated by trading. Military points are made by fighting and so on.

To be adequate, we may build a colony made for that. It will have a food worker, wood cutter and carpenter. At first not needed to be specialists. And this colony will make only Political Points. The other types we can gate in the course of the game.

Beside trading with Europe in Civilization 4 Colonization, we can trade with the native Indian Tribes. The Indian villages trade everything, but for the goods in the picture near its name, they will give a very good price. They will trade as long as they have gold , so they are not endless source and if we hunt their villages, they will not generate gold.

To trade with the natives we need a ship or a wagon train with the resource we wan to trade. This wagon train on the screenshot id full with clothes. They are made by cotton in our colonies. Then we need to go with the wagon train to the village that want clothes. Then clicking the Trade button will open the diplomacy window with the tribe, where we make the exchange.
